Hosts
Dax Hosts
Dax (symbiont); Trill parasitic lifeform. As is normal for the Trill joined species, Dax lived in symbiosis with a succession of humanoid hosts. Each joined pair of the Dax symbiont and a host was a new individual, each sharing knowledge and memories from earlier joinings. Over a two hundred year period, the Dax symbiont served as a field docent to numerous Trill initiates, becoming somewhat notorious for recommending the rejection of 57 host candidates from the program. "Playing God". Hosts of the Dax symbiont have been a father more than once. "Explorers". As of 2371, Dax had been joined seven times prior to Jadzia. "Meridian". The Dax symbiont was born in 2018. Dax was married six times as of 2374, twice as a groom, and three times as a bride. The first five ceremonies were conducted according to Trill custom, while the last was a Klingon wedding held at Deep Space 9. "You Are Cordially Invited". Dax has had nine children, five as a mother and four as a father. "Time's Orphan".
Lela Dax; First host to the Dax symbiont. Lela was a legislator, one of the first women to be named as a council member. "Facets", "Playing God". Lela had a son named Ahjess. Jadzia recalled that after Ahjess was tucked into bed at night, he would climb into his mother's bed two hours later for attention. "To the Death". No dates have yet been established for Lela's life, but it seems possible that she could have been joined as far back as the middle of Earth 's 21st century. We know from "Playing God" that Dax (although not necessarily Lela) had first served as a field docent around 2171
Tobin Dax; Second host to the Dax symbiont. "Invasive Procedures". Tobin Dax had a child named Raifi, who caused Tobin some difficulty over the years. "Nor the Battle to the Strong". Though Tobin was socially inept and unimaginative (at least according to Jadzia), he was renowned for his knowledge of phase coil inverters. "The Siege". Tobin was the only Dax host to try his hand with botany, but didn't have much success. "The Wire". While on Vulcan, Tobin Dax met noted Cardassian poet Iloja of Prim. "Destiny". Tobin used to dabble in sleight-of-hand magic. "Rejoined". Prior to his death, Tobin worked on a new proof of Fermat's last theorem. "Facets". Tobin had children, but he could never bring himself to discipline them, no matter what they did. Tobin was vegetarian. "Afterimage".
Emony Dax;
Third host to the Dax symbiont, succeeding Tobin Dax. Emony was a
gymnast who discovered that her coordination improved following her
joining. "Facets". Emony was on Earth around 2245 to judge
a gymnastics competition. While there, she met and had a romance with
Leonard McCoy while he was a student at the University of
Mississippi. "Trials and Tribble-ations". Since Dax didn't
know that McCoy became a surgeon, it seems likely that he met Emony
early in his college days, suggesting that their romance took place
around 2245.
Emony was an
Olympic gymnast "Take Me Out to the Holosuite". She was an
emotional individual "Shadows and Symbols" who sometimes
stood on her head to relax "Afterimage".
Audrid Dax; Fourth host to the Dax symbiont, succeeding Emony Dax. Audrid was head of the Trill Symbiosis Commission, as well as a loving mother to at least two children. Died in 2284. "Facets". Audrid had a daughter named Neema. At age six, Neema spent two weeks in the hospital with Rugalan fever. During her stay, Audrid read all seventeen volumes of Down the River Light to Neema, even though the child was unconscious at the time. Fifteen years later Audrid and her daughter were not on speaking terms and would not be for another eight years. "Nor the Battle to the Strong". Audrid loved to take walks in the woods. "Shadows and Symbols".
Torias Dax; Fifth host to the Dax symbiont, succeeding Audrid Dax. "Equilibrium". Torias was married to a joined Trill woman, Nilani Kahn. "Rejoined". Torias hosted the Dax symbiont for less than a year before he was critically injured in a shuttle accident in 2285 and, according to official Trill records, remained comatose for six months following the accident. Despite the efforts of the Trill physicians caring for him, Torias's isoboramine concentrations fell below acceptable levels and the Dax symbiont was removed. Torias's death was recorded on Stardate 8615.2. Official Trill records show that the Dax symbiont was subsequently implanted into Curzon; the fact that it was first implanted into Joran is not reflected in commission records. "Equilibrium", "Facets". Sisko's discovery that the Dax symbiont was placed into Joran Belar following Torias's injury seems to place Torias's death six months earlier than his 'official' date of death.
Joran Dax; Sixth host to the Dax symbiont, succeeding Torias Dax. Joran was deemed unsuitable for joining, but he was mistakenly accepted as an initiate by the Trill Symbiosis Commission. When Joran's body rejected the Dax symbiont in 2285, six months after being joined, the commission moved quickly to cover up the incident because it illustrated that about half of the humanoid Trill population could be joined. The commission had maintained publicly that only a tenth of a percent of the population could be joined, and that joining with an unsuitable host would result in death in only a few days. After Joran's death, official Symbiosis Commission records were altered to suggest that Joran had never been joined, and that Joran had been killed after he murdered a doctor that had recommended Joran be dropped from the initiate program. Commission records also suggested that following Torias Dax's death in 2285, that the Dax symbiont was implanted directly into Curzon. Memories of Joran were even biochemically erased from Dax's mind. The commission was largely successful in maintaining this fiction until 2371, when the memory block deteriorated and friends of Jadzia Dax uncovered the truth while trying to save her life. "Equilibrium". Jadzia and her friends subsequently agreed not to reveal the truth, so the information in this entry presumably did not become public knowledge. In 2371 during Jadzia's zhian'tara, Benjamin Sisko volunteered to embody the memories of Joran Dax. "Equilibrium" and "Field of Fire"
The Seventh host for the Dax symbiont was Curzon Dax
The Eighth host for the Dax symbiont was Judzia Dax.
The Ninth host of the Dax symbiont is Ezri Dax.
Dax, Yedrin; Inhabitant of the planet Gala in an alternate timeline. Yedrin Dax was descended from Jadzia Dax and Worf, who were stranded on Gaia in this timeline. Yedrin was the successor to Jadzia as host to the Dax symbiont. Yedrin ceased to exist in 2373 when the timeline vanished. "Children of Time"
