This is where it all began. The founding Star Trek series ran from 1966 through 1969, for a total of three seasons and 79 episodes. Sometimes referred to as "a Wagon Train to the stars," classic STAR TREK features the adventures of the crew of the Constitution-class Starship Enterprise on its five-year mission to explore outer space. On board the starship is a diverse set of shipmates, which include many varieties of human and non-human individuals. The pilot for Star Trek was titled "The Cage." This pilot was never aired as a pilot but bits and pieces were used in the two part episode "Menagerie." |

The show started out pretty slowly but got better every week. Kirk was the swashbuckler we remembered from movies like Robin Hood and Shane. Spock was the calm, stoic character to hold Kirk down (sometimes). And then there was McCoy, the antagonist to keep the dialog flowing between Kirk and Spock. Mr. Scott stayed in the background and fixed things, occasionally running things in his own inimitable way. A few shows actually revolved around Scott. The other main characters had their own fame but these five ran the show and the ship. The real star of the show was the Starship Enterprise but no one seemed aware of it. |
One of my greatest loves is Star Trek. I have been a fan since the first episode of the original Star Trek was aired on September 9, 1966. In March of 1969 when Star Trek was cancelled, I refused to watch "Laugh In" because it was the show that took over the time slot. Silly, I know but there it is. The legend of Kirk and Company goes on and though Kirk died in Generations his spirit lives on in all his fans.
