Ambassador Sarek; Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets and father to Spock. "Journey to Babel" Sarek's illustrious career included the treaty of Alpha Cygnus IX, the Coridan admission to the Federation, and the alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. "Sarek" (TNG).
Sarek,
son of Skon and grandson of Solkar Star
Trek III The Search for Spock,
represented his government at the Babel Conference in 2267. Sarek
gave his son, Spock, his first lessons in computer science, but Spock
chose to devote himself to Starfleet rather than the Vulcan Science
Academy. This and other differences prevented Spock and Sarek from
speaking as father and son for 18 years. Being 102.437 years of age
in 2267, Sarek had planned to retire after the Babel Conference, for
medical reasons. A malfunction in one of Sarek's heart valves
required Chief Surgeon McCoy to perform surgery that required a
transfusion of rare type T-negative blood from his son Spook. Sarek
survived the operation, and an understanding between father and son
was reached. "Journey to Babel"
Following
the death of his son Spock in 2285, Sarek traveled to Earth, where
he asked Kirk's assistance in returning Spook's katri to planet
Vulcan. Kirk was ultimately successful in recovering both Spock's
kafra and his regenerated body. Sarek then made a highly unusual
request for a fal-tor-pan ceremony, which was successful in rejoining
Spock's body and living spirit. Star
Trek III: The Search lor Spock.
Perhaps in gratitude for Kirk's efforts, Sarek testified on Kirk's
behalf at the Federation Council when the Klingon government
attempted to extradite Kirk for alleged crimes. Star
Trek lV: The Voyage Home.
Sarek helped lay the groundwork for the historic Khitomer peace accords with the Klingon Empire, sending Spock to meet Chancellor Gorkon and to open a dialog following the disastrous explosion of the Klingon moon, Praxis, in 2293. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered County.
Sarek married several times during his life. His first wife was a Vulcan princess, with whom he had a son named Sybok. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Following the death of his first wife, Sarek married Amanda, a human woman, with whom he had a son named Spock. "Journey to Babel" At the time of his death in 2368, Sarek was married to Perrin, another human woman. "Sarek" (TNG).
ln
2366, at the age of 202, Ambassador Sarek concluded negotiations on
a historic treaty with the Legarans. Sarek had been working on the
accord for 93 years, and the treaty was the final triumph of his
career. At the time of the talks, Sarek was suffering from
degenerative Bendii Syndrome, but the ambassador was able to
maintain emotional control with the help of a mind-meld with Jean-Luc
Picard. "Sarek" (TNG). Sarek convalesced
for several months while Bendii Syndrome continued to take its toll
on his emotional control. Just prior to his death, Sarek met again
with Captain Picard, when Picard sought information on the
unexplained sighting of Spook on Romulus.
Sarek died in his home on Vulcan in 2368 from the degenerative effects of Bendii Syndrome. He was survived by his wife Perrin, and his son, Ambassador Spock. "Unification, Part I" (TNG).
Sarek also appeared in the Animated Series in "Yesteryear" (TAS)
