Valtane did not realize that he was the host to a parasitic memory virus living in his brain. Valtane was killed in 2293 when the Excelsior fought several Klingon battle cruisers near the Azure Nebula. At the moment of his death, the memory virus migrated from Valtane to then-Ensign Tuvok. "Flashback" (VGR).
